Robert Greenblatt
President, Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc.
Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment of Showtime Networks Inc., is responsible for programming development, acquisitions and scheduling of all Showtime channels. His current original hit series include Weeds, Dexter, Nurse Jackie, The Tudors, Californication, United States of Tara, The L Word, Brotherhood, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, This American Life, Penn & Teller: Bullshit! and Tracey Ullman's State of the Union. These shows have won numerous Golden Globe, Emmy and Peabody Awards, among others, and recently garnered the network a record 29 Primetime Emmy Award nominations for 2009 that include unprecedented nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series (Weeds), Outstanding Drama Series (Dexter) and Outstanding Nonfiction Series (This American Life).
Prior to Showtime, Greenblatt was an award-winning producer of over a dozen series on various networks including Six Feet Under, for which he was awarded the 2002 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Drama Series. This show garnered dozens of Emmy Award nominations, including four for Best Drama Series, and it won the 2003 Producers Guild Award, three GLAAD Media Awards and the Peabody Award. He also produced two Emmy-nominated mini-series: Elvis (starring Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and Gregory Nava's American Family for PBS.
Prior to producing, Greenblatt was Executive Vice President of Prime Time Programming for the Fox Broadcasting Company where he developed such seminal hits as the original Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place, The X-Files, Party of Five, Ally McBeal and King of the Hill, in addition to the pilots for The Sopranos and Dawson's Creek.
As a theatrical producer, he is currently represented on Broadway with a musical adaptation of the film 9 to 5 which stars the Drama Desk Award-winning Allison Janney. The show, which was nominated for four Tony Awards, features a score written by Dolly Parton.
He studied theatre management at the University of Illinois, earning a BFA degree, followed by a MA in arts administration from the University of Wisconsin/Madison School of Business. He also is a MFA graduate of the Peter Stark Producing Program at USC's School of Cinema-Television.
